Tom Dale

Mr. Dale was appointed as CEO and a director of Platmin on 1st December 2009. He started his career as a miner with JCI in 1973 and was awarded the prestigious Ronnie Wilton scholarship in 1979. During his 15 year career with JCI, he held senior line management positions at the Randfontein Estates and Western Areas gold mines and Tavistock collieries. In 1987 he joined a stockbroking firm at the JSE, becoming a rated gold analyst the following year and head of investment research thereafter. In 1991 Mr. Dale joined the industrial minerals division of Gencor to work with Keeley granite. Later in this decade he was appointed as FD and then MD of the gold division. After the merger of the gold assets of Gencor and GFSA to form Gold Fields Ltd, he was appointed as MD of that company and led the team which turned it around to profitability. In 2000 Mr. Dale joined Mopani Copper Mines in Zambia as CEO for a 20-month contract and before joining Platmin was the CEO of Sallies, a local fluorspar producer since early 2007.

Casper Badenhorst

Casper Badenhorst was appointed General Manager of Platmin’s Pilanesberg Platinum Mine on 6 January 2010. Prior to this, Casper spent five years with Sallies’ Witkop mine, before assuming the position of General Manager of Witkop in 2007. He also spent two years in Botswana managing a gold mining operation on behalf of a mining contracting company. Casper has 15 years’ experience in the fields of geology, mining and mineral extraction.

Wayne Koonin

Mr. Koonin obtained a B Comm (Accounting) in 1995 and a B Acc in 1996 from the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa and qualified as a Chartered Accountant (South Africa) in 1997 . Mr. Koonin has a wealth of experience in the international resources sector, having spent many years working for both listed and private corporations in South Africa, Canada and the United Kingdom. Mr. Koonin has most recently held the position of CFO at Ivanhoe Nickel and Platinum Limited, a Canadian exploration company with large-scale nickel, platinum and copper projects in South Africa, Zambia, the DRC and Australia. Mr Koonin previously held senior financial positions in the coal and gold sectors, at Duiker Coal Mining Limited (now Xstrata Coal South Africa) and at DRDGold Limited. Mr. Koonin has also worked for the accounting firm of Ernst & Young Southern Africa.

Terence Holohan

Terence Holohan

Terence (Terry) Holohan joined Platmin in June 2007 as Chief Operating Officer, becoming head of Exploration and Development in early 2010. This follows the reorganisation of the management structure of the company as Platmin makes the transition from being an exploration company into an operating company.

Terry Holohan graduated in 1979 with a Bachelors of Science degree in Physical and Extractive Metallurgy from Leeds University (United Kingdom) and is a Chartered Engineer (QP) through the IMMM (United Kingdom). Prior to joining Platmin, from 2003 to mid-2006, Terry held the position of Senior Vice President for Ivanhoe Nickel and Platinum Limited and was an executive member of the board of directors from mid-2006. He has extensive experience in the design, construction and operation of large PGM mines, smelters and refineries previously (2002 to 2003) holding positions as Business Manager, and Alternative Director, for Anglo Platinum and its subsidiary that operated the Waterval Smelter and Rustenburg Base Metal Refinery. He has more than 30 years’ experience in the PGMs industry, of which six have been in pure exploration and 24 in operations.

Board of directors

The board currently has eight directors, five of whom are independent.

Key strengths

Platmin’s strength lies in the combination of its quality assets, management skills, partnerships and its ability to finance its projects and explore for and develop PGM mineral resources located in the world’s largest PGM district.
