Company profile

Platmin (PPN:TSX, PLN:JSE), an independent, developing mid-tier producer of platinum group metals (PGMs), is incorporated in Canada as a mineral exploration company involved in the exploration and development of PGM deposits on the world’s premier PGM resource, the Bushveld Complex in South Africa.

Platmin’s goal is to become a significant producer of PGMs through the development of several key projects into mines. Platmin’s key mine and projects – Pilanesberg, Magazynskraal and Mphahlele – are located on the Bushveld Complex of South Africa, a geological structure that is estimated to contain approximately 90% of the world’s PGM resources as well as some 80% of its chrome. Approximately 55% of global PGM production and more than 70% of platinum production currently comes from the Bushveld Complex in South Africa. Platmin’s experienced team and quality PGM projects, present both a development pipeline and growth potential, positioning the company to become an important independent producer of PGMs over the next few years.

Platmin’s first mine – the Pilanesberg Platinum mine – is situated on the far reaches of the western limb of the Bushveld Complex, around 80km from Rustenburg in North West Province, South Africa. Currently in development, Pilanesberg will build up to forecast annual production of 250,000 PGM ounces (3PGMs +Au) in 2012. The mine’s world-class infrastructure, including a concentrator that treats ore from both the UG2 and Merensky reef and a dense media separation plant that treats low-grade Pseudo reef material, ensures that Platmin is well placed to take advantage of growth and consolidation opportunities as more projects are brought to account on the western limb.

In addition, Platmin has interests in a several significant PGM development projects– Magazynskraal, which is adjacent to Pilanesberg on the western limb, and Mphahlele, on the eastern limb.

The company is led by a highly experienced management team and board of directors including professional geologists, engineers, financiers and metallurgists, with extensive relevant PGM exploration, development and operating experience.

Platmin has a strong share register. As at December 31, 2009 significant shareholders included Pallinghurst Investor Consortium (51.8%) – a consortium of private equity funds led by Pallinghurst Resources Limited and Investec Bank (6.3%).

Platmin’s BEE partner, the Moepi group of companies (Moepi), is controlled by a trust for the Bakgatla-Ba-Kgafela community which resides in the Pilanesberg area of North West Province. This community has approximately 350 000 dependants.
