Our assets
Platmin’s primary asset is the Pilanesberg Platinum Mine. Other assets are the Sedibelo and Magazynskraal projects on western limb of the Bushveld Complex, adjacent to Pilanesberg, and the
Mphahlele, Grootboom and Loskop projects on the eastern limb of the Bushveld Complex of South Africa, a geological structure that is estimated to contain approximately 90% of the world’s platinum resources as well as some 80% of its chrome.
Western limb projects

- 72.39% Platmin
- 27.61% Moepi Group and other minorities
- Comprises:
- Open-cast mining operation, currently building up to annualised production rate of 250,000oz PGMs (3PGE+Au) by 2011 and forecast annual production of 250,000 ounces of PGMs (3PGM+Au) in 2012
- Concentrator processing plant comprising UG2, Merensky and DMS circuits
- Mineral Resources and Reserves:
- Total Measured and Indicated Mineral Resources of 5.49 Moz 3PGE+Au (3.98 Moz 3PGE+Au attributable to Platmin), Inferred Mineral Resources of 5.71 Moz 3PGE+Au (4.14 Moz 3PGE+Au attributable to Platmin), Proven and Probable Mineral Reserves of 4.23 Moz 3PGE+Au (3.06 Moz 3PGE+Au attributable to Platmin)
2. Sedibelo
- In April 2010, Platmin announced that it had concluded an agreement to acquire the 10% interest in the Sedibelo Platinum Project held by Barrick Gold Corporation (“Barrick”). The remaining 90% of Sedibelo is owned by the Bakgatla-Ba-Kgafela Tribe and the agreement with Barrick is subject to certain customary conditions precedent, including a 60-day pre-emptive right held by the Bakgatla-Ba-Kgafela Tribe.
3. Magazynskraal
- The Sedibelo Platinum Project is located between the Pilanesberg Platinum Mine to the west and the Magazynskraal platinum property to the east. A subsidiary of Platmin is currently conducting a bankable feasibility study on the latter on behalf of its owners.
Eastern limb projects
- Platmin also holds interests in a suite of PGM development projects on the eastern limb of the Bushveld Complex, notably the Mphahlele, Grootboom and Loskop projects.
