Mission & strategy

Platmin’s mission is to explore, develop and operate platinum group metals (PGMs) and associated base metals mining operations with key partners in a sustainable way by complying to safety, health and environmental practices within the ambit of our social responsibilities.

Our growth strategy is based on bringing into production four projects with Mineral Resources strategically located in the Bushveld Complex. Platmin’s pipeline of high-quality exploration projects in South Africa’s Bushveld Complex coupled with management’s track record in the development of new platinum mining and processing facilities should ensure Platmin’s long term wealth creation potential. Our aim is to achieve production by CQ1, 2009.

All projects but one, Loskop, are managed by Boynton, Platmin’s operating subsidiary in South Africa. Platmin expects that the development of its Pilanesberg, Mphahlele and Grootboom Projects into mines will produce sufficient PGM concentrate to warrant construction of a dedicated independent smelter and has commissioned an investigation on this basis. Platmin’s smelting potential place it favourably for negotiation of smelting contracts with majors.

Platmin’s; Pilanesberg Project is set to become a mine with construction having commenced in  CQ1 2008. A positive feasibility study (SRK Consultants) was completed during July of 2007 and a contract was awarded for the design and construction of mining facilities based on two open pits (Dowding Reynard & Associates). It is expected that the development of Pilanesberg into a mine will be followed by the Grootboom and Mphahlele projects, and under the management of Lonmin, the Loskop project.

First PGM production is scheduled for CQ1 of 2009 at the Pilanesberg Project.

Platmin is ahead of schedule on the BEE front with its BEE partner the Moepi group of companies interests exceeding the 26% BEE ownership required by 2014 under South Africa’s Mining Charter. View South African Mining Legislation. Platmin’s strong BEE partnership forms the base for long-term development and operation of our projects.

The quality of our assets and management is central to our projected development and growth. Platmin’s projects are located in the Bushveld Complex of South Africa, the world’s largest PGM deposit. South Africa is a stable, well-developed country with a long mining history and tradition. Platmin’s key projects are close to infrastructure required for exploration, development and operation of mining ventures. Our directors and dedicated management team have extensive combined PGM mining and geological knowledge of the Bushveld Complex of South Africa.

Board of directors

The board currently has eight directors, seven of whom, including the Chairman, are independent.

BEE
